âThis is a nice room. A bit small for three people, though.â
Giuli looked around the guest bedroom they were shown to before hopping onto the middle bunk bed.
Accompanying her were Rosé and Iroha. The latter had run after Chiruka and, after desperate persuasion, cleared up the misunderstanding. They had a pleasant bath right after, and then she was reunited with the Berith twins; it was then that they were shown to the guest room.
âWell, it is a guardian ship. Their guest room couldnât be that luxurious,â Rosé said indifferently as she checked the bedsheets.
âThey got a wide selection of liquor, though. Mariusâs gifts, you think?â Giuli checked the contents of all the cupboards and lockers.
Giuli acting whimsically curious was nothing new, but Iroha was at a loss for words once she saw the girlâs little sister do the same. She thought of how to scold her for her lack of manners after thinking she was a decent girl with common sense, but then she realizedâthe twins were looking for bugs.
âOut in the hallwayâ¦thereâs someone on the lookout. What about the ventilation duct?â Giuli asked with an unfazed expression after quickly destroying the bugs.
âWide enough, but weâd have to leave our equipment behind.â
âIâll go, then. You stay here and guard Iroha, Rosy.â
âGot it, Giuli.â
âW-wait, hold on, go where? Shouldnât we ask Amaha for permission?â Iroha hurriedly tried to stop their plans from moving along any further.
âDonât worry, Iâm just doing some sightseeing.â
âGiuliâ¦?!â
Iroha stood astonished as Giuli took off her jacket. Left only with light innerwear on her, she clung to the ventilation duct near the ceiling and crawled into it like a cat.
âYou sure we should let her go?â Iroha asked Rosé, fully aware protest was useless.
Roséâs expression didnât change as she glanced back at her. âDid you feel anything was off after looking around the ship, Iroha?â
ââ¦Off? I mean, itâs my first time on a guardian ship. I found it very commendable to see the whole crew work in earnest,â she answered sincerely, though confused.
Rosé nodded. âYes, I think the crew is strangely on edge. As though the ship were in the middle of military operations.â
âMilitaryâ¦operations?â
âThereâs one other strange factor. Why did the submarine attack the Hikata earlier at noon?â
ââ¦Because of the Councilâs piracy?â Iroha asked back, puzzled.
The Council for Japanese Independence called itself a government in exile, but they were no more than pirates attacking cargo ships indiscriminately. It was nothing strange for the US Navy to try to get rid of them.
Rosé, however, shook her head.
âIf they really wanted to put an end to their piracy, they wouldâve acted earlier. The Hikata has been doing this for four years.â
âBut they couldnât find them due to Chirukaâs powersâ¦â
âVanagloriaâs power is immense, but it shouldnât be that difficult for the Navy to find the Hikataâs location if they put their all into it. They would simply have to scrutinize the areas the satellites donât show.â
âAhâ¦â Iroha was taken aback.
The US Navy attack submarine had found the Hikata and fired on
